Definitions and downloadable dataالتعريفات والبيانات القابلة للتحميل ↗Use national figures to frame the question. Use your hotel’s room nights, channel costs and guest journey to make the decision.
Begin with the coverage, not the headline
The hotel figures in NUMU’s data desk come from the NCSI September 2026 Monthly Statistical Bulletin. They cover hotels classified three to five stars and report January–August 2026 alongside the same months of 2025. That scope matters. These are not total visitor arrivals, the whole accommodation market or a forecast for the next season. An operator should first ask whether its own property and comparison set belong to this category. A destination marketer needs additional visitor and accommodation evidence before making a broader tourism claim.
Read guests, revenue and occupancy together
The selected table records 1,352,830 hotel guests, revenue of OMR 156.544 million and occupancy of 46.5% for January–August 2026. The matching 2025 figures are 1,515,472 guests, OMR 175.841 million and 52.9%. Guest counts are not deduplicated individuals, revenue is not profit and occupancy is a rate. Read the three measures as different views of activity. None tells you, by itself, whether a particular hotel should lower rates, increase advertising or change its target market.
Build the property-level bridge
Create a short reconciliation between the national context and your own operations. Record available room nights, sold room nights, room revenue, cancellations and the period covered. Separate room revenue from food, events and other income. Keep the definition of each field stable across months. Then compare similar dates, room types and booking conditions. The purpose is to locate the commercial issue: fewer qualified visitors, weaker conversion, shorter stays, more cancellations or a different mix of guests. An aggregate decline does not identify which of these is happening at your property.
Measure the contribution of each booking route
A direct booking can still carry acquisition costs; an intermediary booking can still be commercially useful. Build a consistent view of net revenue after channel commissions, payment charges and the variable costs you choose to include. Explain those inclusions. Attribute campaign spend using an agreed method and keep unknown sources visible. Comparing gross booking values alone can reward an expensive channel or penalise one that brings longer stays. This is a management model to test with finance, not a claim about the profitability of any hotel.
Give the next campaign one testable job
Turn the diagnosis into a bounded campaign brief. Choose one audience, one travel purpose, one offer and one booking path. Explain room differences, arrival information and cancellation conditions clearly. Select a review period that reflects how that audience books, and define what would cause you to continue, adjust or stop. For example, a hotel might test clearer family-room information against qualified enquiry completion. That is a proposed experiment, not a promised outcome. Do not change the creative, price, audience and booking process at once if you want to learn which change mattered.
Keep the evidence useful after publication
Publish the source, observation period and scope alongside any market statistic you use. The NUMU snapshot was checked on 29 October 2026; that check date does not make the underlying figures October observations. Review newer releases before a live campaign or external presentation, and preserve the previous version when updating a chart. Pair national context with an internal owner who can explain the property data. A useful report should end with a specific decision, a responsible person and the next evidence needed, rather than a decorative collection of large numbers.
